FBI Seeks Two After Major Drug Bust in OKC

A December drug bust in Oklahoma City nabbed seven, but police and the FBI are still seeking two additional suspects.

According to an FBI press release, nine persons were arrested after serving eight search warrants throughout Oklahoma City. Six were charged with aggravated drug trafficking and three on other charges. Two men remain at large and are being sought by the FBI. The trafficking charges carry a minimum of 15 years in prison.

The two are Eduardo Higuera-Sanchez, also known as “La Lo,” 47 years of age and Ventura Esquival-Ochoa, 54 years of age, both from Oklahoma City. The men are wanted for aggravated drug trafficking. Anyone with information of their whereabouts is asked to call the FBI at (405) 290-7770 or Oklahoma City Police Department at (405) 316-6830. Callers may remain anonymous.

The arrests were the result of a four month investigation into cocaine and methamphetamine sales in the city. During the operation 14 kilograms (30.8 pounds) of cocaine were seized, along with more than seven pounds of methamphetamine, six guns and about $40,000 in cash.

Although the defendants are of Hispanic heritage, there was no mention of a Mexican drug cartel connection. However, because the FBI as well as the Department of Homeland Security was involved, the assumption is that the gang was part of a larger network – which wouldn’t be surprising, considering the quantity and type of drugs seized. Typically, members of cartel “franchises” are loath to give up any additional parts of the network, fearing retribution if they snitch.

Of the six named in the press release, all were from Oklahoma City. They were: Mario Alvarez Espinoza, 29 years of age; Chris Edwin Thrift, 50 years of age; Jose Alfredo Sanchez-Higuera, also known as “Chi Chi,” 48 years of age; Saul Sanchez, 27 years of age; Jaime Torres, 45 years of age; and Joe Bernard Curtis, 35 years of age.
